A former British diplomat, Simon served in Japan, the Former Soviet Union, South America and the Caribbean. He has also taught International Business Development as part of the Executive MBA programme at what is now Bayes Business School in London.
Simon was 16 years old before he first went abroad (to Iceland and Luxemburg), but has since made up by visiting some 85 countries and overseas territories. Most recently, he has made road trips around the Balkans and the Southern USA, cycled the Loire Valley, and visited Gibraltar, Barcelona, Vietnam, Cambodia, Tunisia, Budapest, Poland and Ukraine.
Today, Simon produces and presents a two-hour travel show on Radio Bath weekly on Saturday mornings from 10am. The Travel Show features international travel news and holiday destinations, as well as some of our favourite hits from the 80’s, 90’s and Noughties.
Simon is co-founder and CEO of Radio Bath CIO, a new model for local independent radio. A registered charity, it is run by volunteers and broadcasts 24/7 on DAB across Bath, North Somerset and West Wiltshire, and around the world online. As well as giving a voice to the local community, Radio Bath CIO provides disadvantaged young people with opportunities to learn and develop communication and media skills to improve their employability and educational prospects.
Simon is the author of 7 local history books: 4 for Historic England on Bath, Bristol, Cambridge and Central London, and 3 in Amberley Publishing’s Through Time series on Battersea, Putney & Roehampton, and Wimbledon & Southfields. He has also self-published Great Ward Poetry, a selection of poems written by the wounded men and staff of the 3rd London General, one of the capital’s 4 Great War hospitals. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Cambridge.
